Drug and drug target discovery for diseases caused by protozoan pathogens
About Us
Our lab is located on Marquam Hill in Portland, Oregon at the joint campus of the Portland VA Medical Center and Oregon Health and Science University. We are fortunate to collaborate with a number of established parasitology, medicinal chemistry and molecular microbiology labs both at OHSU and the VA, and internationally.

The Portland VA currently has approximately 90 funded investigators and a research budget in fiscal year 2021 that exceeded $43 million in direct costs. The Portland VA currently ranks in the top 10 nationwide among VA Medical Centers in grant support from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Research is conducted in a total of ~92,000 square feet of wet and dry lab space that supports investigator initiated independent research programs and all or part of 12 research centers funded by the NIH or VA. The Portland VA greatly benefits from its strong affiliation with Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU.) A sky bridge physically connects the institutions. The Portland VA has a track record of training graduate and medical students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty members through VA and NIH training grants and career development programs.
Our lab works closely with the medicinal chemistry labs of Drs. Michael Riscoe and Jane Kelly (below) at the Portland VA. The combination of expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry and organic chemical synthesis creates an exciting translational environment.
The Pacific Northwest offers endless opportunities to explore and enjoy nature year round.
Portland, Oregon is a fantastic place to live and enjoy both urban and outdoor adventures. We are always interested in talking to people who are interested in research assistant or post doctoral positions in our lab.
